OBITUARIES
British Pugwash mourns the loss of Dr. Jack Harris (Vice Chairman 2002-2008). Jack "made an enormous contribution to discussions within British Pugwash, arguing with a gentle but forceful manner, and always allowing for a contrary view even when he was the only and acknowledged expert." (John Finney and Robert Hinde, Physics Today, 17 February 2009, click here). Eulogy by Revd Canon Dr Mike Tucker (click here).
It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Maciej Nalecz died 6 February 2009, in Warsaw.
Those of us who knew Maciej will remember his wonderful warmth and humanity, and the skill with which he helped guide Pugwash as chair of the Pugwash Council for many years, up to 1997. Our best wishes and sympathies go out to his wonderful wife, Sophie, and his family and many friends. We will post more about Maciej and his contributions to Pugwash soon on the Pugwash website. As a way to honour Joseph Rotblat's life and legacy, Pugwash has set up a special fund to help make possible the establishment of his archives at Churchill College Cambridge.
