On January 29-30 in Cairo, Pugwash participated with the Blix Commission on WMD in convening a meeting bringing together some 60 experts from the Middle East and internationally for informal discussions of ways and means of promoting a WMD-free zone in the Middle East. Pugwash participants included Secretary General Paolo Cotta-Ramusino, Executive Director Jeffrey Boutwell, and Council members Mohamed Kadry Said, Gen. Pan Zhenqiang (a member of the Blix Commission) and Steven Miller.
