• On April 12, 2007, US Pugwash and Student Pugwash USA hosted a reception at the Keck Center of the National Academies of Science to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs. In addition to the keynote talk by Dr. Richard L. Garwin, a longtime Pugwash participant and National Medal of Science Laureate, there were introductory remarks by Dr. Jeffrey Boutwell, Executive Director of the Pugwash Conferences, Prof. Alan McGowan, chair of the board of Student Pugwash USA, and Ms. Christine Rovner, Executive Director of Student Pugwash USA. Among the more than 100 people who attended were students from across the United States who were in Washington to attend the 14th National Conference of Student Pugwash USA, from April 13-15.
